Whatever way you cut it it has been a rough year for the world. The tsunami, earthquakes, terrorist attacks, hurricanes, the ongoing Iraq war, the death of the Pope and the devastating Sudan crisis. Photojournalists have had a bumper year whether they welcome it or not. In the wake of all this tragedy we find images that gut and fortify us, inspire and shake us. An interesting point to be made is that nobody has been spared. From the rich of New Orleans to the poor of Pakistan and every level inbetween. A truely leveling, humbling year for first and third world alike.
Mike Johnston has mentioned the forthcoming Time: The Best Photos of 2005 and it does indeed look like a good issue. If any of our loyal readers come across it then drop us comment and tell us what you think. Till then check out some sample images from the issue.
