It’s been more then two years now, and after 30,000 photos and many gigs of space required to hold those photos it’s still alive and kicking. I purchased my Digital Rebel the day it arrived at Best Buy, excited that a digital SLR finally hit below $1000 (in fact I was able to use a 10% off coupon - so even better!).
Over the past two years we’ve seen many new Digital SLR cameras from Canon, as well as Nikon and others. When is it time to upgrade your Digital SLR?
I’ve used film 35mm cameras in the past, but quickly jumped to digital photography (who can afford to process all that film?). Film cameras seem to last forever! I continue to see people with cameras that look like they’re 20 years old. I’m not sure my Digital SLR will last that long.
Currently the only spec I would like to change on my Digital Rebel is the start-up time. Three full seconds is too long. My pocket SD400 can get up and running faster then that. The top things on my list of improvements have less to do with the photos, but that camera - I would like a smaller, light camera. Maybe a longer battery life? More incentive to carry it around and shoot as much as possible.
I know Digital SLRs have been around for sometime now (2000?). They have changed drastically in the past few years, so much so I couldn’t imagine many people still using these “pioneers” of Digital SLRs.
So what do you think? Will todays DSLRs last 20 years? Will there be a time when changes to these Digital SLRs are so small it would not really be worth upgrading? How about a Megapixel max out? Someday I hope to be able to pass down my camera to my son like my dad did to me, we will see…
